SWISS ALMOST THROUGH TO KNOCKOUT STAGE

The Switzerland team at the ongoing World Cup in Russia is almost through to the next stage after aXherdanShaqiri late strike helped them defeat a stubborn Serbian opposition.

It was a high stakes match after the Swiss had held Brazil to a 1-1 draw in the first game. Sweden Coach Dismisses Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Possible Comeback

Sweden head coach Janne Anderson has indicated that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not in the country’s plans as they prepared themselves for the summer World Cup in Russia. Sweden qualified for the global tournament after scripting a stunning 1-0 aggregate win over Italy in the playoffs and there has since been talk of Ibrahimovic linking up with the squad.

However, in an interview with TYC Sport, Anderson is clear that Ibrahimovic has retired from the national side and has no plans of including him for the upcoming tournament. He said: “Ibrahimovic said no to the national team. He was not going to be in the team after the European Championship, and I respected him. If you rejected the team, I do not think you should come back. I respect what he said and those who said ‘yes.'[Ibrahimovic] has not called me, but he’s definitely not included in the plans for the World Cup.” Continue reading “Sweden Coach Dismisses Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Possible Comeback”

Harry Kane Is England’s Only World-Class Player – Teddy Sheringham

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham believes England are likely to have a tough time at the summer World Cup as they have just one world-class player in the form of Harry Kane. The Three Lions have been drawn in a relatively favourable group in Russia involving the likes of Belgium, Panama and Tunisia, but they are still not regarded favourites to win the showpiece tournament – for the first time in 52 years.

In an honest interview covered by The Mail, Sheringham, who scored 11 times for England, reckons Gareth Southgate’s side will struggle to contend with the expectations in Russia, he said: “Can we do well in Russia? Honestly, no. If you are going to win a World Cup you have to have two or three world-class players… at least. England have one – Kane. You look around the rest of the team and, yes, there are good players but some of them cannot even get into their club teams, which is terrible for English football. I love Gareth as a man and a person and I like what he is trying to do, but he’s up against it.”

Lucas Biglia – Argentina need get the best out of Lionel Messi

Argentina international Lucas Biglia believes the national side looks pretty ‘ordinary’ without the services of Lionel Messi. However, the midfielder admits that his compatriots should learn how to get the best out of the Barcelona star without wearing him out.

The 2014 World Cup finalists found themselves with a realistic chance of missing out on the World Cup finals altogether, but Messi came up with a standout performance right at the end as he scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Ecuador in the final qualifying game.
