The Covid 19 pandemic has affected the world in the worst way possible in every sector and country

During the past few weeks, all the major leagues and tournaments have been cancelled. As per now, The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has asked FIFA to postpone the 2022 world cup qualifiers. The confederation has requested to postpone the qualifiers to September 2020.

They also stated that by postponing the qualifiers the football federation will be able to contain the spread of coronavirus regionally and internationally. The decision shows the responsibility of the federation to the precautions taken by international health organizations.

The qualifiers that have been scheduled to take place in South America in March 2020 have been suspended. Brazil was to host Bolivia and fly to Peru for their first couple of qualifiers. Argentina, meanwhile,were supposed to host Ecuador and travel to Bolivia for their first two qualifiers. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled from 21stNovember to 18thDecember in Qatar.

CONMEBOL has suspended Copa America 2020 until the summer of 2021. The 47th edition of Copa America, which is been organised by the football confederation, has to be delayed. On 17 March 2020, they announced that the tournament to be postponed the following year to prevent further spread of coronavirus. The tournament was scheduled to take place from June 12 to July 12 at Colombia and Argentina.

The pandemic has affected football in Europe too. They have suspended all the premier league matches and other European leagues. The 16th edition of Euro Cup was scheduled from June to July 2020 but the spread of coronavirus has delayed the tournament postponing the dates to June and July of 2021.
