HOW WILL SPAIN LINE UP AT THE EUROS AND WORLD CUP?

The UEFA Euros 2020 keeps coming closer and the participating teams have also been putting in some work to ensure that they continue to assemble a squad solid and rich enough in talents to clinch the trophy. While the respective nations that will be at the Euros are already gearing up preparations for the European championship, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is also not far from sight and the preparations for football’s most prestigious tournament has continued at a steady pace as well.

Spain, one of the heavyweights and favorites to win either or both of the competitions, are currently short on squad power and currently have a huge task on their hands to find themselves a befitting and proven striker that can represent them at the two tournaments. The Basque country are currently short on a proven forward even though they have a couple of brilliant players in most of the other squad departments.

They recently had a huge boost on defensive options after Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte decided to switch from being French to being Spanish. The development now means that Spain have one more star defensive option should they need to make reinforcements in the defensive department. Spain head coach Luis Enrique currently does not have any serious need for a central defender and needs a super striker instead.

They have lacked a Diego Costa kind of striker in a while and as long as that continues, they may face a slight difficulty in scoring goals at those competitions. Aymeric Laporte is an excellent defender but is not expected to be first choice except if Sergio Ramos is not able to regain full fitness beforehand. The Real Madrid captain and Villarreal’s central defender Pau Torres are the first choice options Enrique has in the team.

Here’s how they could line up at the Euros:

(4-3-3): Unai Simon; Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos, Pau Torres/Aymeric Laporte, Jordi Alba; Marcos Llorente, Rodri, Pedri; Dani Olmo, Gerard Moreno, Ferran Torres
