NEYMAR MOVES AHEAD OF MESSI

Neymar has moved ahead of Paris Saint Germain (PSG) teammate Lionel Messi at the top of the scoring chart in the South American section of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers after he scored the first goal of the matchday twelve (12) matchup with Uruguay.

CAF: SOUTH AFRICA LEAD GROUP G

South Africa made a big statement in Group G of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers in the CAF (Confederation of African Football) section following their win over Ghana. The South Africans recorded a slim 1-0 victory at home to Ghana in their second group game to take top spot from their opponents.

The CAF section of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers is in round two and the teams in Group G began their round two games last week Friday. At the National Sports Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe on Friday, South Africa and hosts Zimbabwe played out a goalless draw, while Mubarak Wakaso scored in the first half to give Ghana a 1-0 win over visitors Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in Cape Coast on the same Friday. MADRID MEDICAL TEAM HELPING MENDY RECOVER FROM INJURY

The medical team at Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid are currently working on getting the club’s defender Ferland Mendy to recover from his injury and they are also tracking his progress in a bid to get him back to full fitness as soon as possible.

The French defender picked up a serious injury that saw him miss out on being selected by France head coach Didier Deschamps as he missed the country’s participation at the UEFA Euros tournament. After helping Real Madrid to reach the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League last season, he was gutted to have picked up the injury and revealed that he felt really bad for not being able to feature for France.

MORATA’S WORLD CUP PARTICIPATION NEXT YEAR UNDER THREAT

Spain international striker Alvaro Morata may be the country’s leading marksman, but he has not been as impressive as many would have expected, and it could cost him his place in the World Cup squad next year. The Juventus forward has failed to lead the like for Spain at the Euros, and he could even miss out on his starting role at the competition before it ends if he does not improve his form in front of goal. The striker has rarely scored for his country and even missed a penalty in their last clash against Slovakia even though they ended up winning the tie by 5-0.

Spain head coach Luis Enrique is said to be an admirer of the striker and is satisfied with his inclusion in the team but may have to be ruthless in terms of team selection as he considers winning trophies over favoritism. After the game against Slovakia, Morata revealed that he could not sleep for nine hours after claiming that he received death threats from hundreds of fans especially on social media, with many claiming that he did not put in a fine performance during the match.

HOW WILL SPAIN LINE UP AT THE EUROS AND WORLD CUP?

The UEFA Euros 2020 keeps coming closer and the participating teams have also been putting in some work to ensure that they continue to assemble a squad solid and rich enough in talents to clinch the trophy. While the respective nations that will be at the Euros are already gearing up preparations for the European championship, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is also not far from sight and the preparations for football’s most prestigious tournament has continued at a steady pace as well.

Spain, one of the heavyweights and favorites to win either or both of the competitions, are currently short on squad power and currently have a huge task on their hands to find themselves a befitting and proven striker that can represent them at the two tournaments. The Basque country are currently short on a proven forward even though they have a couple of brilliant players in most of the other squad departments.
